Elhamma australasiae (A Swift or Ghost moth (Hepialidae))

A very common moth in Canberra suburbs, and occurs widely in eastern Australia, from northern Queensland to Tasmania. It comes readily to light, and flies from late January through to peaking in February and March (iNaturalist).  It is much smaller than the other local hepialids, and the males and females are very different to each other, with the females much larger. The biology is unrecorded, but Ted found a pupal shell, probably belonging to this species, protruding from a garden tussock of Lomandra glauca which was dying off in the centre, presumably caused by damage caused by larval feeding. They may feed underground on a range of grasses and sedges. See 'Moths in the ACT', G. Cocking, S. Bond and Ted Edwards. Canberra, ACT, 2022, page 38.
