Hypeninae (subfamily) (Snout Moth)

Brown moths with long labial palps held straight in front of the head, brown forewings with variable markings including a submedial diagonal line, plain brown hindwings, and a habitus posture as a flat triangle with hindwings obscured. Wingspan 2 cms. Occurrence eastern Australia from Northern territory around to South Australia. Particularly including the genera Hypena and Rhynchina. The species Rhynchina obliquarlis Kollar 1844. (Hypena masurialis Guenée, 1854) and H. subvitalis and H. obacerralis are hard to distinguish in habitus photos of worn specimens.
