Native to South America. A garden/horticultural escape that is becoming naturalised. Tends to have deep roots and grow in dampish sites. Remove if possible.

Thanks for that. Because it is widespread on East Coast and found in South America it could be a native. There are a number of plants we call natives that are also found in South America as we were joined as one continent. Has anyone asked the indigenous people they would certainly be able to verify that it is a native or not.
