With no cones, it is probably a male tree.

I have called back the ID of this sighting. I was surprised to see Casuarina appear from so high on a rocky knoll in the Pinnacle, so went in to take a look. There are 2 small Exocarpos's on this rise, neither exactly at the coords quoted for the sighting. However, the dead trunk and rocks at the base of photo 1 submitted confirm I did eventually find this plant. Close look at photos 3 and 4 show none of the segmentation or whorls of teeth/leaves that would characterise Casuarina. With my hand lens I could see tiny triangular leaves, but only as singles on the outside wherever the branchlets divided. Also photo 3 shows the tiny pink flowers right at the tips of the branchlets. Finally photo 1 is showing the 'autumn' colours that so many Exocarpos display right now. It's way too early for fruit+seed to have formed.

Thanks. I had assumed the photo was taken on the banks of the Molonglo and did not look closely at what I assumed were the leaf whorls.

Hi all, I note there is some confusion with the location of this sighting. I don’t have GPS on my camera and just enter the location as well as I can remember on the sat. Image on the website. Maybe I should always add that this is an approximate location? Cheers, Kurt
