User's notes

St Johns's Wort is a declared noxious weed in some parts of NSW. A variety of biological controls have been used to reduce the amount and spread of St John's Wort. One is the use of Chrysolina beetles, which are shown in the photographs. Two species of Chrysolina beetles have been established in Australia. The larvae eat the winter growth leaves, and the adults eat the spring growth leaves. Sometimes you see plants that have been completely defoliated. They are effective only in areas of full sunlight. The use of these beetles has only been partly effective and sporadic. Reference http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/agriculture/pests-weeds/weeds/profiles/st-johns-wort
