Accipiter fasciatus/cirrocephalus (Brown Goshawk/Collared Sparrowhawk)

It is often difficult to be able to distinguish wether an image submitted on Canberra Nature Map is either a Brown Goshawk or Collared Sparrowhawk. Brown Goshawks are slightly larger have a rounded tail-tip, distinct brow-ridges causing frowning expression and sturdier feet with less elongate middle toe. The Collared Sparrowhawk has a square-cut tail, elongated middle toe and head looks rounded with a staring, not frowning, expression.

Accipiter fasciatus/cirrocephalus is listed in the following regions:

Canberra & Southern Tablelands  |  Albury, Wodonga  |  Gippsland  |  South West Western Australia
