Sporocarps:-  may be sessile or stalked, scattered, gregarious, closely crowded or sometimes heaped

Peridium:- may be single or double, calcareous.

Stem:- when present usually tubular and translucent, or stuffed with lime of dark amorphous material, sometimes with lime on the exterior surface only.

Columella:- present or absent.

Capillitium:-  hyaline tubes with connecting calcareous nodes, attached to the base and to the peridium.

Spores:- Black to dark brown on mass, violet-brown by transmitted light.
