Yes it is also along Hume Highway from Yass to Gundagai - not sure how invasive they are away from the roadside, but are heavy seeders and hard to get rid of once established

Not Potentilla recta, which is indeed sometimes abundant along roadsides, but has palmate leaves. A milky secretion sounds more like a family such as Euphorbiaceae or Apocynaceae, rather than Rosaceae ( which is where Potentilla belongs ).

It’s the opposite process. Germination and establishment occurs under water in shallows, and plants are stranded when water level recedes.
