Nice sighting. I haven't seen white clubs before. Could be a new species for NatureMapr.

Not seen one before, my initial guess and it is only a guess would be a species of Macrotyphula or Typhula.

Hi @RogerF. Barbara and I met with Heino yesterday to show him these fungi and he took a sample for analysis. I'm not sure if Heino dug up the insect remains. Maybe he can advise you? Regards, Tim

My suggestion (but not confirmation) of Clavaria tenuipes, shows the perils of IDs from photos, when the fungus is nondescript. As I left to meet Tim and collect the fungus from the ANBG’s rainforest gully, I picked up a petri dish as an immediately to hand and suitable container in which to carry such small, delicate fruitbodies back to the workroom. Once back inside, I took the lid off the petri dish and the strong aroma of garlic or onion straight away reminded me that I had collected this fungus before, though I couldn’t immediately remember where or when. A check in the herbarium showed that I had collected specimens of this species in May 2000 – from another section of the rainforest gully, probably no more than 50 metres away from Tim’s sighting. @RogerF. There is no associated insect. The mycelium lives in the soil.
