Are you planning to use them? Good to see them out of the environment.

No we plan to put them in the green bin. Keeping them out of the environment was indeed our goal.

@KMcCue fair call! I only ask as I collect them for dual purposes: keeps them out of the environment, and they make a nice, vitamin-c rich jelly.

What a good idea - is the jelly recipe available?

There are plenty of recipes available, with varying degrees of complexity, so I will wait for a recommendation from @Csteele4. I remember rose hip syrup taken by the spoonful as medicine (or maybe when the jelly failed to set. There is a recipe that uses brandy as an extra preservative boost and that might be pretty good.
I cut and poisoned heaps of briar rose today but didn't remove the hips; maybe next time I will collect some seeing the blackberries are almost finished.
There are plenty of briar roses on Isaacs Ridge which anyone is welcome to take.
