Hey Ciaran - are you going to trust me on this one or do you want better pics? I guess it could be a different species of Rosa, but not likely.

To be 100% sure, we really need a bit more close up detail of the leaves, flowers/fruit

Looks like R. rubiginosa rather than R. canina. I can't see the original image but it looks thorny. Flowers/fruit would make it easier. Cut and poison it, report on Field Maps as sweet briar.

Thanks Mike. I think R. rubiginosa is the go then, especially given other sightings in the area as well
