The fruit is reputed to be toxic to sheep and goats and possibly other species. It is not unusual to find smaller plants in the park which I usually remove.
It is a native plant but I think it should be removed and binned when seen. The prickles also make it an unsuitable plant to encourage in a public park.

Hmmm, It's not particularly common in HGW and primarily grows amongst the kangaroo grass and sorghum on the western* edge of the park, which most people steer clear from anyways (though a small number have popped up near the planted Indigofera). I personally would disagree with the removal of this species as it does not grow on the paths and adds to the biodiversity of the woodland outcompeting weeds such as nightshade and fat hen. We have planted species such as blackthorn, early wattle, and kangaroo thorn in the park which are equally if not more prickly. Thoughts @MichaelMulvaney

It is pollinated by native bees and an early coloniser so I like it - the prickles are not that bad and it does have a nice flower - I think it is good in most places.
