Hi Birdy, I'm pretty sure these covered trails are termite workings rather than ants. They certainly don't have the look of the carton covered trails made by Papyrius ants. As there is no other indication of Papyrius and no other ants present I'm going to reject this sighting as Papyrius. Cheers, Jon
Agreed. To identify termites from photos, focus mainly on the 'head' area of the soldiers. Important features include whether there is a sharp glue-gun type snout, or well developed mandibles, and the 'tooth' structure of the mandibles (eg some have different teeth on the left and right mandibles). For some genera it helps to also have a view of the pronotum, i.e. the first segment behind the head.
