I agree Stuart, the photos aren’t good enough to determine to species level. I also note the date of observation would be very early in the season for M. thoracica and an unlikely occurrence.
There is just enough shape and colour showing in this photo for me to say this is Melobasis thoracica. Note the classic blue, suffusing to purple apically, on the elytra, and the bicolorous pronotum. Its body shape also fits. This species does emerge very early, having found adults myself just as early and even earlier in the season, on 22nd August 1982, 24 August 1982, and on 1st September 1983.
