User's notes

When the scale insect was first sighted it was head down on the side of a tree, with the rear end of its body uppermost and bent outwards into the air, similar to the position shown in the fourth image. Touching the insect caused it to slowly flatten its rear end back against the tree. Over the next couple of minutes, the rear end of the insect gradually bent back outwards into the air as seen in the first three images. The third image shows the underside of the rear of the insect in the bent over position. Unsure what this behaviour was. The final image gives an indication of the insect’s size.
