These trees are around the exit ramp in Hughes, from Carruthers St to the southbound lane of Yarra Glen on the Woden side. They appear similar to the tree on the median strip on the city side of the overpass. I would like to nominate these trees for the ACT Tree Register, as they were planted on "Yarra Glen", a soldier settlement block (the road was named after the property) in the 1920s. If anyone knows about any birds who use the trees (eg nests, hollows, food etc), that would be a bonus. With grateful thanks.

This is a cupressus (now called Hesperocyparis) but I can't find a clear key to distinguish those species planted so it is difficult to id to species level. I think it could be H. lusitanica or H. arizonica other cupressus trees planted in Canberra at the turn of last century include macrocarpa, sempervirens and goveniana.

Thanks Michael. These trees, along with the single tree in the median strip of Yarra Glen on the city side of the Hughes-Curtin overpass, were identified by the Botanical Gardens as Cupressus arizonica (also known as Hesperocyparis arizonica). A retired forester identified them as Monterey cypress.
The BG scientist noted the identification of Cupressus/Hesperocyparis species is difficult and species are commonly confused. At least everyone agrees the trees are cypress!
