User's notes

Nothing pale about this one so probably not O. silvanus. Other possibilities: O. janeus, O. antipoda, O. goodingi, O. oreades? maybe something else not reported in MOV?

I think that pattern of dark spots is unique to O. sylvanus. I do not know why Axel chose the name 'Pale Oxycanus'. A more literal translation of the Latin would be 'Woodland Oxycanus'. Many of the BOLD specimens of O. sylvanus look to me like they were dark grey before they lost a lot of scales.

Great to have a Latin scholar on the team! 'Woodland Oxycanus' makes a lot of ecological sense too.
