Wild child descended from planted stone pines nearby. Pinus radiata in background.

Mike, both Pinus pinaster and Pinus pinea have needles in pairs, and are difficult to tell apart except for cones - where any present and were they prickly (pinaster) or smooth (pinea)

I don't have a cone but I remember it as being ovoid maybe 10-12 cm long. The seed is about 20 mm long, pale with a dark coating.

I have added photo of pine cone and portion showing seed cases left over from demolition by yellow tailed black cockatoos.
