Hi Michael, apologies but I didn't get another photo, and I know now that I should have, to confirm it was a Pied Currawong and not a Grey Currawong. I'm certain it was a Pied Currawong, but I should have taken another photo to show the other half of the bird.
Matthew I’d be surprised if your id wasn’t correct, but having just joined the COG moderation team for the Canberra Nature Map, I’m realising just how much info a photo, and especially a photo of part of a bird or an unusual angle does NOT give, and being conservative. I’ll leave this one for Chris to decide. However, maybe it would be worth commenting on call and/or one of the other id features which you doubtless observed but isn’t part of the photo.
Matthew, as moderators we can only go on what we see in the image. This is difficult but I will go with Pied Currawong because of bill shape and tiny amount of white just showing on the folded wing. Chris
