I found this hanging from a thread in my front yard. Presumably an egg of some sort - insect/spider? Can anyone identify it?

Cocoon of a parasitic wasp - what a delightful object! Images online (search 'ichneumonidae cocoon') suggest subfamily Campopleginae of the Ichneumonidae.

@michaelb Thanks Michael, This was before I knew that I should add the adults to the original sighting. The adult wasp was posted at Campopleginae (subfamily) (An Ichneumon Parasitic Wasp) Regards Alison
