Size - length 20mm; Conder, ACT; pretending to be dead at the start of the photo shoot but became more alert later.

Looks rather like more male Agrotis porphyricollis, but the photos don't seem to show bipectinate antennae.

Hi Glenn. I see what you mean about the wing pattern being like the male in the mating couple photos. Is the wing pattern consistently different between male and female?

I don't think so. If it's not porphyricollis, there isn't a reason to think it is another Agrotis species. The safest thing to do would be to leave it unidentified on the grounds that the photo doesn't show enough characteristics.
