I am assuming the leaves were at leasr 3 cm long, so it was not one of the small leaved species of Cotoneaster, and that it was not thorny, as in Pyracantha.

Definitely is a Pyracantha the orange somewhat flattened fruit is different to that of Cotoneaster- the thorns just haven't come out in the picture. The distinction between fortunenana and rogersiana is based on inconsistent leaf characteristics so not reaaly sure which one it may be.

Possibly Pyracantha crenatoserrata. Compare with http://canberranaturemap.org/Community/Sightings/Details/34744.
