It is called Evening Primrose because the flowers usually open around sunset.
St John's Wort and Horehound are also widely used by naturopaths.
Common Evening Primrose occurs on disturbed sites. The photograph was taken in a large area along the river which is dominated by African Lovegrass and other weeds, and native species compose less than one percent of the understory ground cover. Compared to African Lovegrass and St John's Wort, which are highly invasive of natural areas, and Blackberry, Great Mullein and various thistles, this plant is a very minor weed.
