Dead Gang-Gang Cockatoo. Unknown cause. Location obscured due to the sensitive nature of the sighting, at the request of the NatureMapr Gang-Gang Cockatoo study group.

Thanks Steve - looks like a young chick (white beak, freshness of feathers) I suspect she fledged prematurely from a nearby hollow (that we didn't know about) will check out today there is a possibility that there is another chick in the hollow.

I went and retrieved the carcass. It was directly under powerlines and I suspect this newly fledged chick had either flown into lines or somehow connected two lines together - perhaps swinging on a wire. On her underside she had a line of damage through the top of her beak, eye and cheek, while feet appeared stripped of flesh - not sure if this was by ants or electrical current. We had two female chicks fledge the week before within 200m of this location. I have added three photo's to Steve's original record.

Oh, I'm so sad to see this. I'd become quite attached to the fledgling which she is believed to be. (I know we're not supposed to become attache, but watching her and her parents for some weeks leaves its mark . . .)
