User's notes

Closest seem to be Castiarina kershawi and Castiarina livida. Will be posting on the Beetles group on facebook for the beetles experts to chime in.

@AlisonMilton "Not Castiarina kershawi, which is in a different species group. This is either Castiarina vegeta or Castiarina livida. A bit tricky to ID from a photo, really need a couple of specimens to hand, including at least one or two males, to attempt to ID to species. Cheers, Allen M. Sundholm OAM"

Castiarina vegeta is normally in green, not blue and the pattern seems too bold for livida.
Do you have a photo from directly above?

I just checked my reference collection and I do have vegeta in blue as well as green so at this point I’m leaning that way.

@KorinneM @MarkH I have a photo looking more directly down on it, though of course yours is a better photo. I had a really bad day.
Castiarina sp. (genus)
Also, if this is the same beetle, check the third photo in Miranda's sighting. Castiarina sp. (genus)

Thanks Alison, I’m getting towards 100% in determining it’s C. vegeta. I’ll put that ID on it
Cheers

@MarkH Thanks Mark. I really should leave jewel beetle IDs to the more expert :-)

It takes time… there are around 475 species just in Castiarina !

It needs the extra step or two to actually add that species properly/add it on to this sighting - which any mod for this category should be able to do.

@MarkH Mark, Are you happy for me to add this new species to NatureMapr and confirm to sightings you have suggested?
There is also another sighting by Aussiegal but I think this one looks a bit different. Unidentified Jewel beetle (Buprestidae)
