On bamboo axle (gold stripe & Alphonse Karr). Gracilis appears unaffected by this scale.

Thanks for ID. I appreciate it and don’t disagree, it makes sense— except that they appear black without a hint of orange or red as I understand is usual with giant snowball mealy bug. In other respects, it makes sense. Is there a black variation?
