Hi @yomama you can see the soldiers have 'gluegun' type pointed snouts, and no visible jaws. That puts them in the genus Nasutitermes. The local mound building species of Nasutitermes is N. exitiosus but this is not a mound so we dont know if these are exitiosus or a different Nasutitermes.
Hi Don, thanks for your help with this ID! There was a mound at the end of the old fallen tree right nearby, would it be possible for multiple Nasutitermes species to be in close proximity to one another? I will go back and have a look at the mound over the weekend and report back!
@yomama These are probably from the mound but it is usually hard to be sure. If you send a photo of the mound we can probably make that a record of N. exitiosus because there are only two local mound building species and their constructions are usually distinctive.
