https://canberra.naturemapr.org/users/4030, I checked the Bridal creeper records of Mts Majura / Ainslie again to see whether there are indications of habitat preferences and I stumbled over your comment at our Bridal Creeper sighting Asparagus asparagoides (Bridal Creeper, Florist's Smilax) from May 2023 reg your "past hand removal of 12 garbage bag full of bridal creeper bulb masses". It is not clear to me from where you removed them. Was it at the locality of above mentioned sighting? Most of our Bridal Creeper findings are at drainage lines of lower slopes at sites disturbed by previous management, one garden dumping site, all have good tree canopy (bird perching sites and protection from frost). I do wonder whether the current climate condition in Canberra with frost in winter keeps this serious weed at bay...

Sorry for the confusion - I was talking about my son's place on Kangaroo Island, trying to make the point that even where there was a massive carpet infection across an area tens x tens of metres digging the bulbs out with a mattock and hand was surprisingly successful. Yes I think it doesn't like the frosts but worry that if we don't get on top of it with warmer winters on the way it may boom.

Agree; it seems that it likes similar conditions than Inkweed includ. the spread by birds most likely mainly the Currawongs...

Just FYI bridal creeper is still an eradication target for the ACT Governemnt. We monitor a number of sites across the territory, predominantly in north Canberra and usually conduct a chemical treatment starting in September.

https://canberra.naturemapr.org/users/19461, if we find bridal creeper should we just report but not digging out? we dug out before (see sighting mentioned above) and that seemed to be successful (no bc found at a couple of surveys)

Thanks Waltraud. No need to leave any you find if you have the time and capacity to remove it immediately. Just map it on treated weeds so we know which areas have been treated to avoid doubling up.
