In grassy woodland; cut and sprayed with glyphosate and mapped with Field Maps.
Location: within an area of approx 7ha where local Parkcare group FoMM carried out restoration work; the area was moved from 'nature reserve' into horse holding paddock (special purpose reserve) in 2002; FoMM sucessfully lobbied the ACT Gov for 10 years to place the area back into reserve (2013); I can't moderate the records of this location; I can moderate further to the west and the east and also further north (but not the horse holding paddock) and south. There seems to be a weird rectangle within the nature reserve west of the power line easement which is excluded for moderation. Does anyone have an idea?
thanks Barb; I checked 'Maps' but couldn't find 'Suburbs' such as Watson or Hackett to find out whether the weird rectangle is included in one of the 2.
Steve818 Any thoughts about cutting and spraying ST? So far the method seems to result in a good killing rate close to 100% but it is certainly labour-intensive; thus a method perhaps only suitable for volunteers. Contractors sprayed about 2/3 of entire ST tussocks with glyphosate and told me that this is sufficient however there is regrowth in perhaps 10%. abread111 questioned why contractors are not using flupropanate.
@waltraud spot spraying with glyphosate has to cover the entire foliage of the serrated tussock plant, otherwise re-sprouting will occur. Note that @HarleyB and @jmetcalfe @Jmetcalfe001 will see these NatureMapr sightings on the NOT-TREATED weeds map, because NatureMapr weeds are now a layer on the ArcGIS Online - Field Maps maps.
hi Steve818 Yes, I know about the CNM layer. I usually use the Field notes in CNM to comment if I had treated and how and occasionally how many, see this record. For the ST that Jochen and I currently tackle at this paddock we discussed whether to remove the record of Non-treated weeds in Field Maps after the treatment and mapping with Field Maps / Treated Weeds; mapping info will allow follow-up. In regard to the contractor ST work at our 10ha Fair project site I estimate that they sprayed 15-20 Slender Speargrass tussocks for each ST and I report that this was successful perhaps because the speargrasses were small (Austrostipa scabra (Corkscrew Grass, Slender Speargrass)). On the other hand the contractor overlooked large patches of ST in the wider Fair area including those we mapped up to 4 times with Field Maps / Non-treated Weeds and recorded with CNM, see https://canberra.naturemapr.org/sightings/4510730. Contractor apparently ignored our mapping and recording. And they missed a lot of ST including patches that the biosecurity team mapped during Inkweed search. I'm afraid any assessment (or follow up work) of this contractor work is difficult because of their fantasy mapping. HarleyB Jmetcalfe001 abread111
