Thanks Helen. Yes, I believe the white ring around the eye is also indicative of flavipes. We have a lot of these little fellows around here.

Hi @SenexRugosus and @HelenCross, Yes Agile Antechinus have a less developed, eye ring, or none. I often first identify them from their buff flanks. The back and shoulders are also less even colour in YFA. (And problem fixed wrt confirming records, thanks to someone behind the scenes).

Hi @SenexRugosus, no I was unclear. The buff flanks are on flavipes. Agilis is fairly evenly grey.

Thanks Don! I confess I was very confused, and the poor little fellow was looking very lost amongst all the pictures of the agilis. Worse still, he could see himself completely missing out on the mating frenzy in October...

Thanks JaneR. Although nominally carnivorous, I find they're very partial to peanut butter - as you can see from him tearing into the bark to get the last little smidgens. When they eat moths they eat absolutely every little part, unlike birds which typically discard the wings.
