Leaning towards E.nicholii, based on buds and bark. Upper part of trunk bark should be a bit finer fibres, less fissured, than base, in the photo.

@Steve818 I don't have any clear photos showing the upper bark unfortunately. It definitely became a bit finer higher up, and somewhat smooth/deciduous looking on the uppermost branches. So that lines up with your description.
