Spore look a little dark for Cortinarius - typically has more rusty coloured spores

@pam hence my confusion! Any suggestions?

Couldn't agree more - a definite challenge!! A couple of possible genera are Pholiota and Psathyrella !? First looking at the spores, Pholiota have dull brown spores sometimes with some red, whereas Psathyrella are purplish black and sometimes reddish in colour. Both may have veil remnants. The cap surface and gills reminded me of some Pholiota I've seen. The gills have a definite pinkish tinge rather than the rust or dark colour I would have expected. Sorry not much help, It was just something about the specimen didn't seem like a Cortinarius. Then the spore colour really raised questions in my mind. Though the colours may be a photographic thing rather than a natural colour. Keep up the good work, I tend at times to be over cautious, when in doubt I tend not to name!!

@pam that is a fair stance to take! The gills on this were definitely pinkish - on first glance it looked almost like an Agaricus, apart from the obvious cortina! Pholiota seems like a possibility, I'll have a poke through that genus and see if I can find a match!
