Con, several questions for you. Was this on an Acacia? If so, do you know the species? How large was it?

Yes.
Bipinnate with fine leaves. No flowers or seeds. Approx 2 m. Stunted because it is competing poorly with feral shrubs.

It is most possibly one of two species of gall rust given it is on a bipinnate Acacia. Uromycladium murphyi is known to occur on Acacia dealbata, A. decurrens, A. elata, A. mearnsii, A. penninervis and A. rubida. several of these species have bipinnate foliage. Endoraecium carnegiei is known to occur on Acacia dealbata. The specimen may not yet to be mature enough for diagnostic spore production to have occurred, I've had this trouble before with specimens that looked like this.

Blurred image of wattle in background suggests it is not on Acacia dealbata - so that seems topping to Uromycladium
