User's notes

This creature was in the top arch of our letterbox, possibly sheltering from the heavy rain on 29Nov (we had had 60mm by that time). When I looked at it from the back end, it appeared to have tail feathers. From the front, soon after this photo was taken (by someone else), I couldn't see a beak. Just two beady eyes and a greyish knob where a closed beak would be. Not good light, so not easy to see. (I also wondered if it was a fruit bat, and if the 'tail feathers' were not feathers at all.) By 6am on 30 November it had disappeared.
