Red eye could be an optical reflection ?

As with many moths, to get better detail, I post process the images to dampen the highlights and add light to the dark parts. It is the only moth species which I have photographed that has this red eye phenomenon. All my moth shots to date have been captured during daylight so I don't use flash.

Interesting. You might like to examine other photos of this species, say on inat and bold, in detail to see if they show the same phenomenon.

I see a red eye on the photo of T. Psammoxantha p.66 moths in the a.c.t.
