there is, or perhaps was, a Canberra based project which asked people to report sightings of colour marked cockies with info on what they were feeding on and numbers in the flock
A bit of an internet search came up with this: (The app mentioned is where you can take a pic and report the details for the project.) u/Fragrant-Patient2753 avatar Fragrant-Patient2753 • 2 mo. ago Hi, I am part of a research group at ANU - we are studying the social networks of Canberra’s inner north population of cockatoos (revealing the hidden city of cockatoos that lives in our human city). We paint mark cockatoos with 1-3 colour marks on the back as a non-invasive way of identifying individuals. It will wear off after 2-3 months, and the birds don’t seem to notice it.
You can find out more on our citizen science app bigcitybirds. However one thing you might find interesting is that the top colour always denotes their home roost. Red = ANU; Black = O’Connor; Violet = Lyneham; Green = War memorial; orange = Hackett; blue = Watson.
