Interesting record Peter. I have seen the species lower down on the northern slope of Mt Gingera. Your observation at above 1800 m, however, is an elevational record for our region. Did you see predation on bogong moths (e.g. a lizard with a moth in its mouth). Black Rock skinks actually occupy and shelter in these rock fissures.
Hi Will, good question about actual predation! No, I didn't see a lizard with a moth in it's mouth, but I looked in scores of crevices as part of my bogong surveying, and the one and only crevice with bogongs had the only pair of lizards I saw (within 20 cm). So, the evidence for predation is clearly circumstantial ... I will be more careful with my words in future (I'm realising this site can serve as a kind of public confessional ...). Cheers, Peter
