Emily, ignore my comment in the previous posting. It is probably a Copperhead based on the image and locality but any detail to confirm is not visible. The other possibility is Tiger Snake but if I had to guess I would say Copperhead.
I agree with John - alpine copperhead. When i enlarge the image I can just see, in one of the photos, a short section of cream-coloured lower-lateral scales (along the lower side of the body) that help to pin it down as A. ramsayi.
