Possum box. I noticed a number of times people with a ladder transferring possums into the Mt Majura nature reserve - east of north Watson / The Fair walking along Clancy's track and east of Hackett close to twin dams - certainly more than 50 m from a nature park entry. At one occasion they had a bag with either trap or a box; they said it is a box with a possum inside which they want to fix on a tree; at another occasion they said they have a license to release possums in the reserve. Mt Majura has a lot of possums and I doubt the transferred possums will survive. Can anyone point out the legal situation? does a person or an organization hold a license to transfer possums > 100m deep into a nature reserve? and if so, who issues the license?
Hi Waltraud ACT Nature Conservation Act (2014) makes it an offence to release an animal in a reserve without a licence. Licences are issued by the Licencing Unit in PCS. I suspect the issued licences are publicly available but not sure. I will check.
