I think this is a hybrid with A. dealbata, not a pure A. baileyana, though wait to see what others think

If the first pinnae face backward (stem clasping) I call it A. baileyana, otherwise it is a hybrid. Am I right?

Yes that's usually a good one though I think it can be variable. In this one the whole leaves including number of pinnae/pinnules seem larger than that for A. baileyana as well as the shape/form and bark of the plant look a lot more like A. dealbata to me as wel.

All others that I could find in the area were dealbata. I’m on a quest to find baileyana. I’ll wait for confirmation that this is the hybrid although I know it may be difficult to determine. At least we are confident that it’s got some baileyana in it.

The pics aren’t the best either. I’ll get better pics

Maybe all the baileyana have been removed. It is a declared pest plant.

Yes, I know baileyana is noxious which is why I’m trying to find it. Preferably big ones that need to be removed by a ranger. I had a baileyana confirmed a while back so I’ll revisit it.
