Ther was a big discussion on site amongst people who know Asteraceae much better than myself; and their conclusion was C. gunnianum

Hmmm, ok could you elabroate further on what was discussed and who was present? I guessing it was the ANPSC Wednesday walking crew and in that case I'm pretty confident of my ID.
Besides that,
-Upper leaf surface is silky grey with what appears to be appressed cottony hairs.
-Involucral bracts are a deeper orange-yellow
-Location as monate forest above 1000m in the tinderries (C.gunnianum is a plant of grasslands well below 1000m).
