The length of the seed heads was longer than the length of the stem. The seed heads were essentially resting on nearby grasses.

The dense inflorescence with those wispy looking awns makes me think of Vulpia sp.

My thought was that it may be Bromus diandrus. The close ups are too close to get a good perspective of size.

Spikelets are too delicate to be B diandrus and would need to be on much longer pedicels to be that species. There are 2 different length glumes which are shorter than the lemmas (typical of Vulpia) and the plant appears to be a cool-season annual (small crown, all starting to die off). So Vulpia. Low glume is a minute triangle. Would need to know if flowerhead was fully exerted (V muralis) or partially enclosed (V myuros)

I did go back but could not relocate the same plant. I will keep an eye on the location next spring. Thank you to all the moderator's for your efforts. We now have over 680 species listed for Dryandra Street Woodland... a nice data complement to all the environmental weeding the friends are undertaking.
