Did you see the colour of the underside of the leaf? They do look like Acianthus which would have a purplish underside. One appears to have a finished flower stem but the other does look like a bud.
No it is just useful to know. Acianthus are known for often only a small proportion of the colony flowering so in some years you see many leaves and few flowers and the apparent bud was a plant that did not go on to flower.
