Again according to plant id app

Which plant ID app do you use?

Picture this. It's supposed to have the largest database but isn't free.

And this one?

I used Picture This as a trial but haven't paid for it because it didn't have enough Australian plants. I use iNaturalist which is pretty good with suggestions but ot always right. When I use the Naturemapr app I sometimes don't suggest a species; that means that plants are identified before I get home to check.

How do you not suggest a species with Naturemapr? If I don't select a species, it won't let me continue the process and upload the images/details. Yes, Picture This thinks most eucalypts are Red River Gums. :-)

For example, for acacias use Wattles. I can’t identify many grasses so just select Grasses. Whatever group gets you to the right moderator.

I'm obviously doing something wrong but that's ok. I don't mind guessing. It's kind of fun to see how wrong I am! :-)

Hi Guys - Please identify this one or it dies (the pic I mean, not the plant). Cheers, Lisa

Hi Lisa, some of these sightings may take a few days to get an ID on. Please be patient with us!

No worries. Sorry 🙁. But in my defence, this one had been there a while. 😊

Oh absolutely no worries at all! A little nudge like this often prompts a look up from the computer and over to the books that are gathering dust on my shelf. I do think its worth keeping sightings up however, even if they are in unidentifed, i've found that inspiration can strike suddently for sightings that have been in the system for 2 or 3 years!

Hmm…. My project (just a personal one that I’ve taken on) is a “complete” inventory of plant species in Aranda Bushland. A bit ambitious I know. So I want only 1 of each species and I don’t want them to stay unidentified. 😊 I’ll give any unidentified ones a month but then they get deleted after a nudge. I will try not to nudge too hard or too quickly. Cheers, Lisa

Are you sure that this one is the first sighting for a creeping cudweed in CNM?? If so, I'm very happy! And it is a native, right?

Alright sound good then, all the best for your project! We have something like 20 sightings for creeping cudweed on CNM, its not a ridiculously well reported species so good to have the record. The difficulty for the ID comes from the fact that anything Asteraceae is difficult to ID without flowers, particularly these small herbaceous daises.

And yes it is indeed a native.

Yes, now I see the 22 sightings. But I got the first sighting in Aranda Bushland. There is one across Belconnen Way in Bruce though. I'll have to try harder for a first sighting. I'll be going for 1 today.
