Surprised to see this skink given the weather and it was quite active, its movements rapid.

Yes surprising. Some of the smaller skinks do see to be able to undertake limited basking on sunny days. Just by the way, today (11 July) I actually saw a red-bellied black snake basking near its winter retreat.
