Hi David. This is special. We are trying to keep a close eye on the last population of Rosenberg's Goannas remaining in Canberra Nature Park, living in Ainslie-Majura Nature Reserve. There were previously two species in multiple areas. Eight individuals have been identified so far from photos of their left and right faces, but there may be quite a few more. If you have any more photos that show the face in greater detail I might be able to tell if this is a 9th individual. Your other sighting, No 4436344, is showing in a slightly different location. Is that the same goanna?
Hi Don, Nice to know that it was a bit unusual. We saw this one, which is missing the end of its tail, and another one (sighting No. 4436344), which was not missing the end of its tail, only a few minutes apart. So there were definitely 2 different Goannas. I have uploaded a few more photos of each one, in case that helps with the identification.
