Noxious weed common across Canberra. There used to be a Noxious Weeds Ordinance published each year, which said: "(4) All owners of land in the area shall destroy or eradicate or otherwise deal with the noxious weeds growing on the land, and shall thereafter keep the land free therefrom. (5) After the expiration of one month from the publication of the notice aforesaid, if the owner of any land has not, in |the opinion of the Minister, taken reasonable steps to comply with the requirements of this section, the Minister may, subject to the provisions of this Ordinance (a) recover from the owner a penalty not exceeding Twenty pounds upon proving that the owner has not complied with the requirements of this section; and (b) cause all noxious weeds growing on the land to be destroyed, and may recover from the owner as a debt any reasonable expenses incurred thereby." It is interesting to read the list - most of the weeds are still present.
