Hi Kurt, you can identify these Common Brush Tailed Possums yourself. All identifications get checked by a moderator before appearing as records, so if you get it wrong, its not a big problem. If in doubt which species of possum, you can have a look at the photos of each species on CNM (under 'species'). The only other Brushtail Possum than this one, in our region, is the Mountain BP, which has shorter ears.
Hi Don, thanks for the tip, I’ll keep it in mind…but wouldn’t it be great if say after selecting ‘species’ and holding down on a name from the library, a picture would pop up for instant comparison!
Well yes it would, or better, a string of pics showing different ID features! I am from an era when we entered these records and submitted them to a moderator, literally on green A5 cards. To check the ID features of a species, you had to go to some specialist book or journal paper. So to me everything about the current system is fantastic. But it can always be made better. Maybe Aaron Clausen will get round to adding that feature one day.
I totally agree that the current system is fantastic, I’ve found NatureMapr very easy to use unlike some other apps that I have given up on! By the way I’m also from that era😂 cheers, Kurt.
