Could be a nest of Camponotus intrepidus, but without any ants in the photos it could also be the nest of some other invertebrate, so can't be identified.

Hi Michael, Hi Jenny, as I can't see any ants in the photos I'm reluctant to call the sighting a Camponotus intrepidus nest, although it certainly could be. Cheers, Jon
