This is a special orchid species, and not just because of the flowers unusual form, these plants do not fare well with fire as they are not very deep rooted. They tend to grow in the leaflitter and the tubers are destroyed by bushfires. This species was more widespread in the ACT but has not been found in many areas following the 2 recent major bushfires.
